A MAKE-UP artist has been declared a high flyer by Richard Branson's Virgin Cosmetics company.

Jane Braithwaite, of Billingham, enjoyed a champagne reception and dinner at a London hotel after being honoured for her cosmetic sales this year. She was one of a handful of woman chosen from about 8,000 nationwide to attend Mr Branson's High Flyers Club dinner.

MUSIC MAN: Redcar busker Norman Evans has raised more than £700 for Sir William Turner's Almshouses, in Kirkleatham, which he presented at a concert at the almshouses. Ticket sales from the music and poetry night,boosted the total to £822, which will be used to improve disabled access.

BLAST OFFf: A giant Pudsey Bear is up for grabs at Asda, in Billingham, for the youngster who comes up with the best rocket made out of empty washing-up bottles. For every bottle of Asda washing-up liquid sold, 4p will be given to Children in Need. Each store winner will win a giant Pudsey Bear and go into the national final at a Children in Need pop concert in Swindon, on November 15.

FARM REOPENS: Newham Grange Leisure Farm, in Middlesbrough, has reopened after problems with its water supply. The Coulby Newham farm is open every weekend during winter from 10am to 4pm, plus weekday half-term events. For details, call (01642) 515729.
