Youngers with nowhere to play have raised £22,000 to create their own sports centre and meeting hall.
Teenagers at Ludworth are working on designs for the structure that will be built near the community centre. The £22,000 scheme could also see a BMX track created.
The Ludworth Youth Club members, who have been given a £9,000 grant by Barclays Sitesavers, are being helped by Groundwork East Durham.
On Sunday, from 3.30 to 5pm, they will be carrying out a clear-up of the playground and woods near the community centre, helped by staff from the Durham Market Place branch of Barclays.
Groundwork East Durham project officer Jason Martin said: "It is good to see that young people are so committed to making a real difference by providing facilities for themselves within their community.
"Groundwork will help them with fund-raising, design, engaging the local community and linking to other local agencies, as well as ensuring that the group get to enjoy themselves along the way.''
He added: "Hopefully we'll have something in place by the end of the financial year. It will be a space they can call their own.''
The village's Durham City Council member, Jimmy Turnbull, said: "Any initiatives to help young people in the village are greatly welcomed.
"These projects are a good start for us. However we do need more people in the village to help make Ludworth a better place to live.''
