YOUNGSTERS at Leyburn Community Primary School have shown that in today's busy world it is never too early to learn about road safety.
Adults in the town will now see the distinctive results of a competition among the children for road sign designs organised by North Yorkshire County Council road safety officer Alison Butterfield.
The special signs have been designed for the newly created 20mph zone at Brentwood, Leyburn.
The competition was judged by local councillors Michael Heseltine and Roger Harrison-Topham, along with assistant highway engineer Jane Charlton and Alison Butterfield.
The winners, Jasmine Gamble-Schofield and Rachel Watkinson, are almost dwarfed by the full-size signs to be permanently displayed at the entrance to Brentwood, off the A684, and at the entrance to Woodside, off the A6108 Richmond road.
The designs have road safety message such as "slow down please" and "my speed please," together with a drawing.
Jasmine and Rachel were presented with a gift voucher, road safety prizes and a miniature version of the signs.
