A DYSLEXIC student has thanked a college for helping him to fulfil his ambition.
Stephen Okey, from New Marske, has been accepted into the Royal Engineers after studying at Redcar and Cleveland College, Redcar.
Stephen said: "I am delighted that after two years of study, I have achieved my goal.
"As a military engineer, specialising in driver operations, I will be responsible for maintaining various vehicles. The academic and practical skills I have gained will be invaluable."
He said: "The support and tuition from Redcar and Cleveland College has been tremendous, and I would like to thank my tutors for helping me gain my dream career."
The college provides specialist advice and assistance for students with conditions such as dyslexia, which make learning difficult. Specific help is available from the college's learning centre along with support from an assigned personal tutor.
Stephen studied GCSE maths, physics and chemistry before achieving NVQ Level One in joinery and a diploma in engineering.
College principal Alan Old said: "We aim to cater for everyone at the college and put particular focus on assisting people with dyslexia.
"I would like to congratulate Stephen on his achievements and wish him every success in his future career."
Soldiers are expected to achieve high standards physically, mentally and academically, and undergo basic military training before becoming engineers or tradesmen.
