HUNDREDS of people and dogs are expected to march through Tony Blair's home village of Trimdon on Sunday.

The North-East branch of the Countryside Alliance has organised the rally to take the protest against the ban on hunting with dogs to the Prime Minister's own backyard.

It has invited anyone with a lurcher, terrier, greyhound or any other working dog, to take part.

The proposed ban on hunting with dogs will not just affect foxhounds, but also terriers, whippets, greyhounds, lurchers, gun dogs and many other working dogs.

"It is vital that working dog supporters, including representatives of the Durham hunts, terrier clubs and other organisations as well as individuals, attend the event to prove the depth of feeling in the countryside," said Countryside Alliance North-East regional director Richard Dodd.

The march is open to all owners and supporters of working dogs. People taking part are requested to bring a maximum of two dogs each.

Marchers will marshal at 12.30 in a specially allocated car park on the eastern end of the village. The march will begin at 1pm, with a short rally on Trimdon Village Green. Refreshments will be available before and after the march.

Buses back

EVENING buses have been restored to Darlington's Skerne Park estate.

Arriva North-East withdrew services after a series of incidents, including passengers being pelted with eggs.

However, services have been restored following a public meeting in which assurances were given by neighbourhood wardens and police.
