The Under-12s Royals entertained Sunderland in a top of the table clash on Sunday and it was a closely-contested match.
Sunderland scored after ten minutes but Royals absorbed any further attacks and could have equalised through Vicky Wray and Helen Morrison before half time.
Royals defenders Alex Sanders and Jade White were outstanding in front of keeper Stephanie Hartley who held out until two further goals from Sunderland in the final 15 minutes made the score 3-0. Despite the result it was a good performance from Royals against an excellent side.
Four of the Under-12s squad have been selected to join the School of Excellence at Middlesbrough. They were chosen after undergoing a four-week trial. Rebecca Pattinson, Rebecca Toppin, Alex Sanders and Steph Hartley join Lisa Ward and Katie Hewitson who were chosen at Under-16 level. They will play their first competitive games today in an Academy tournament in Newcastle.
Chloe McKay from the Under-13 squad has been chosen to join Sunderland's School of Excellence.
The Ladies team travelled to top of the table East Durham and were beaten 6-0.
