This week saw Spraire having an mixed bag of results. At mini soccer the Under-8s played Cleveland Juniors and in an evenly fought game, a draw was a fair result.
Cleveland started the early pressure, but found Spraire keeper, Jake Wood in fine form. Despite this Cleveland took an early lead with a fine goal from Charlie Teesdale but the score was soon levelled when Rikki Gann of Spraire hit a curling long range shot.
Rikki was on the scoresheet once again soon after, but this was cancelled out by Liam Lonsdale. When Rikki completed his hat-trick to give Spraire the lead just before the end, the game was all but over before Liam popped up again to equalise, making the final score 3-3. Man of the match honours go to Rikki Gann of Spraire and William Douglas of Cleveland.
The Under-9s were at home to Brinkburn and lost 2-0 defeat, Kerry Headlay was man of the match.
The Under-14s were away to Yarm Town Boys and came away with a 5-3 win, scorers were Craig Lavella (2), Davision (2) and Elgie. Man of the match went to Shepperson in what was an overall excellent team performance with thanks to Micheal Lavelle who was the stand-in keeper.
Spraire Lads Under-14 B just edged it in a nine-goal thriller at Barnard Castle. Man of the match Thomas Chandler gave Spraire an early lead but Barnard Castle equalised soon after. Chandler put Spraire back in the lead before Hind chipped the keeper to make it 3-1. Chandler then completed his hat-trick to give Spraire a 4-1 lead at half-time.
Barney came back strongly in the second half and soon reduced the arrears but Chandler still wasn't finished and scored his fourth to make it 5-2 to Spraire. Barney pulled it back to 5-3 and in the last minute made it 5-4 so Spraire were very relieved to hear the final whistle!
In the Richmond League, the Under-14s put in another encouraging performance against Catterick AWS. They had a fair share of possession but their lack of experience again tolled, resulting in a 5-0 reverse.
The Under-15s were at Newton Aycliffe and came away with a 5-5 draw, the goals coming from Healey (2) Cheesman, Burton and Leegh. This was a great game for Spraire who showed great team sprit.
The Under-15 B got a great win away at Oak, the goals coming from Oliver and McDonald but it was overall a brilliant team performance.
The Under-16s lost 5-0 away at league leaders North Omesby.
In a highly entertaining game which neither team deserved to lose, the Under-13s suffered a narrow 5-4 defeat to Thirsk Falcons.
Thirsk took a 2-0 lead before Spraire Lads drew level with an excellent shot from Joe Clamp from the edge of the box and a header by Sam Wootten who nodded in a rebound after Chris McEvoy hit the bar.
Spraire Lads took the lead with a spectacular 25 yard volley by Liam Sanderson but Thirsk levelled before half time. In the second half Thirsk went ahead with an unstoppable free kick before Sam Wootten equalised again with a terrific shot from the corner of the box. Thirsk completed the scoring with a fine goal just before the final whistle.
