A hard frost checked weights at Woodland Lakes Carlton Miniott the setting for the second round of the North East Winter League on Sunday and the prolific venue actually saw 11 blanks.
For the 130 rods spread around five of the match lakes the carp shoals refused to feed in numbers and as it happened the leading duo fished next to each other on Wagtail Lake.
Simon Medd of Billingham Tackle Box on peg five swapped between corn and maggot hookbaits on the pole locating carp at intervals for 42.3.0.
Next door Newman Scott Red's Derek Fox on peg 6 used the same approach for 36.4.0 hanging on to runner up spot by 2ozs from Shimano's Andy Dargue on 36.2.0.
Team wise Cleveland Angling Centre won on the day scoring 90 points and now share the overall lead with Shimano Quaker MG on three points pushing out reigning champions Newman Scott blue on five points.
