LOCAL people are joining forces in a determined effort to clean up the streets and parks of their market town.
More than 70 volunteers are meeting next month to begin a clean-up.
The day is part of the Richmond Pride campaign and was inspired by the results of a survey that stated the North-East of England is among the worst-kept areas of the country. While the survey was not specific to North Yorkshire, its boundaries did include Richmondshire.
Local mayor Stuart Parsons, who was instrumental in setting up the event, will attend with guests including local Tory MP William Hague and Baroness Angela Harris.
"I am delighted with the response I have received and pleased that so many residents are willing to take responsibility for their town," he said.
The clean-up is taking place on Sunday, November 3, and anyone wishing to attend is asked to meet at the town hall - with small gardening tools - at 10am for coffee and croissants, before the clean-up starts at 10.30am.
Anyone with suggestions for an area in need of attention should contact the town hall in advance.
