PROPOSED traffic calming measures at West Witton are to be examined by North Yorkshire County Council, the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and the parish council.
The Richmondshire area committee of the county council agreed that measures should be investigated, even though traffic speeds are generally consistent with the 30mph limit.
A 101-name petition calling for controls on vehicle speeds said West Witton had roadside houses along the main A684, a number of pubs and a minor road leading into Coverdale and forming a T- junction in the village.
County council engineer Stewart Hurst said it should be relatively inexpensive for existing 30mph limit signs to be replaced with units on yellow backgrounds, countdown markings to be laid on the approaches to the start of the limit and roadway hatching to be re-laid at the eastern end of the village.
Double white centre lines at the eastern end have, however, been ruled out under government guidelines.
