Spennymoor United's hopes of FA Cup glory were dashed when they were beaten 3-1 at Northwich Victoria on Saturday.
But Moors didn't disgrace themselves and with better finishing in the first half could have shocked the Conference club.
Northwich took the lead after 52 minutes when Richard Norris scored from a pass by Gregg Blundell, and they went further ahead when former Sheffield United full-back Andy Woodward fired in from 30 yards.
Northwich went 3-0 up when player manager Jimmy Quinn beat Adrian Swan with a superb header. Moors scored a deserved consolation goal near the end when Danny Brunskill was brought down, and Shaw scored from the spot.
Blyth also failed to make it into the first round when they were beaten 3-1 at home by Runcorn. Their defence let them down in the first half when they conceded three bad goals, and all they had to show for their efforts was a 54th minute goal by Craig Perry.
