A MAJOR breakthrough in cancer care - pioneered by scientists in the North-East - is expected to be announced later today.
Cancer care campaigners believe the drug could revolutionise the way patients are treated.
The breakthrough has been made by a team working for Cancer research UK at Newcastle University.
It works by preventing the body's DNA acting to repair cancer cells damaged by radiotherapy.
Scientists believe the breakthrough will allow doctors to target tumours with deadly accuracy.
