A MAN was left in a critical condition after he and his wife were involved in a road accident.
David Treweman, 50, of Salutation Road, Darlington, was taken by air ambulance to Middlesbrough General Hospital with serious neck injuries after the accident on Tuesday afternoon.
His wife, Shirley, also 50, was in the front passenger seat.
She was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital but was released after treatment for minor injuries.
The crash happened about a mile west of Whorlton crossroads, on the A67, when the vehicle, a Westfield sports car, left the road and smashed into a hedgerow.
Mr Treweman has been detained in the intensive care unit where his condition is described as "critical but stable".
