CONCERNS were growing last night for the safety of a teenager who went missing at the weekend, after a massive search failed to find him.
Craig Foreman, 19, who had been receiving psychiatric treatment, walked out of his home at Denecrest, in the Dene area of Medomsley, County Durham, early on Saturday.
He is believed to be depressed and he took with him medication prescribed for his mental health. Police said his condition meant he could be violent and they have asked people not to approach him.
Yesterday, more than 40 members of four search and rescue teams from throughout the region combed an area covering a three kilometre radius of Craig's home.
Steve Owers, of the Teesdale and Weardale Search and Rescue team said: "We have searched difficult terrain, including thickly wooded areas, as well as picnic sites and reservoirs, but found no trace of him."
Detective Chief Inspector Ron Vine appealed for people in the area to check any premises they had where Craig may be sheltering.
He said: "As time goes on, we are growing increasingly concerned for his safety, not least because the weather is so poor.
"I would ask people to check any barns, garages or other buildings they have ,just in case Craig has taken refuge in one of them."
He has been described as 5ft 7in, of medium to stocky build and with short-cropped ginger hair.
He may have been wearing a beige or light brown fleece top and dark trousers when he left home.
Anyone with information has been asked to call Consett Police on (01207) 504204.
