THE first managing director of the Tees and Hartlepool Port Authority returned to his former workplace yesterday to show his grandchildren where he used to work.
Geoffrey Robinson, 86, who now lives in West Sussex, was managing director from 1966 to 1977. He has not been back to his former workplace since then, and decided to show his two grandchildren, Lawrence, 11, and Tom, nine, and their mother, Sophie, where he used to work.
As part of his visit, he was taken on a pilot cutter along the River Tees to see what had changed in the past 25 years.
Ron Lowes, of the authority, said: "Mr Robinson was absolutely delighted to be back and commented on how much had changed since he had last been here.
"It was just a flying visit to show his grandsons the river he used to manage."
