PEOPLE in Thirsk are backing plans to create a community forest following the first of two public meetings.
Mike I'Anson, who came up with the forest initiative as a way to improve the town's environment and aid its economic regeneration, said: "The feeling among the public was that the forest is a good idea. I think from within the group there were a number who want to help with the managerial side of the project. I hope that even more people will attend the second of these meetings so that I can hear their views too."
The next meeting will be held at the Golden Fleece Hotel, Thirsk, tonight, at 7pm.
