HOUSEHOLDERS are being urged to watch out for tea-time burglars taking advantage of the early nightfall due to daylight saving.
Derwentside Police are warning that a spate of early evening thefts usually follows the clocks going back.
Officers have started a campaign, dropping off leaflets at homes they feel are vulnerable to criminals.
The booklet offers basic advice on crime prevention, such as drawing the curtains and using light timers.
Detective Sergeant Dave Scott, of Consett CID, said: "Simple, cost-effective security measures like this can make all the difference."
