A HOUSING scheme which aims to keep people living in a Weardale village has been officially opened.
The Wesley View development in Wolsingham has been built to offer more affordable housing in the village which has seen property prices hit an all-time high in recent years.
The 26-home development was created by Three Rivers housing group, with the support of Wear Valley District Council and Wolsingham Parish Council.
It was originally earmarked for rented accommodation but, with a £684,000 Government grant via the Housing Corporation and private investment, it has been developed as a combination of houses and bungalows for rent and sale.
Clare Hepworth, chairman of Three Rivers, said: "It is important that people, young and old, in a rural community like Wolsingham have the choice of staying in their own community if they wish."
