A GROUP of nurses have been crowned Trust Team of the Year.

The team from the coronary care unit of Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital won the title for innovative work that ensures heart attack sufferers are treated quickly and safely.

This is achieved using a new assessment system and administering clot-busting drugs.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust, which covers Middlesbrough General Hospital, the James Cook University Hospital, North Riding Infirmary and the Friarage in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, announced the winners at an awards ceremony at the Cellnet Riverside Stadium.

The winners fought off competition from 11 teams and were awarded the prize of £4,000 from trust chairman John Foster.

He said: "It is marvellous to be a part of a trust where people are keen to keep improving care for patients by coming up with new ideas and ways of working.

"The judges agreed that this year's entries were the highest calibre so far, making the job of choosing a winner an extremely difficult task".
