PUPILS at neighbouring village schools in County Durham have added their own permanent reminder of parish celebrations to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee

A 2003 calendar produced by Esh Parish Council features the art work of youngsters at three local primary schools. Each month on the calendar is accompanied by pictorial portrayals of notable historical events over the first 50 years of the Queen's reign.

Pupils at Langley Park Primary, Esh C of E and Esh Laude RC schools each contributed four of the drawings. Other contributions adorn a range of Christmas cards also produced by the parish to commemorate the jubilee.

The calendar was launched at an evening of nostalgia staged at Langley Park Primary School.

It featured archive film footage of the region and songs from the six decades of the Queen's reign.

There was also a display of local historical photographs and maps, courtesy of the Durham County Record Office.

Each pupil at the schools has received a copy of the calendar as a souvenir of the event. They are available for £2.50, while the Christmas cards can be bought for £1.75, at each of the schools.

Copies are also available from Esh and Langley Park post offices, Londis and Reay's newsagents in Langley Park, or from parish clerk Mike Ackroyd, on (0191) 3736687, 3843799 or 3731876.
