In the Meredith Trophy, Tyne and Wear, Saints and Newcastle booked their semi final places, whilst Durham Fire won their first round tie.

The three second round ties went according to form, with all three teams having big wins. Tyne and Wear led after 15 seconds against Frankland when Scott Curtis lobbed the keeper and his side never looked back as they unexpectedly romped to a 7-0 win. Troy Curry bagged a hat trick, Lee Chape scored twice, whilst Curtis scored a second goal to add to his lightening start.

Saints returned to winning ways with a comfortable six goal victory over under-strength Derwentside, scoring three times in each half. Mick Heaney scored twice on his debut, with Paul Barrett scoring twice. Les Gooliffe once and an own goal to complete the rout.

Newcastle won comfortably at Darlington with Dave Oakes leading the way with four goals. Ian Milbourne (2) and Koby Cohen scored on the way to their 8-2 win. Secretary Keith McIntosh came off the bench with quarter of an hour ledft to complete the scoring for his team, with his first goal for them. Fred Wood and Kevin Wilson scored for the home side who were disappointed after recent improvements in results.

Durham HQ and Durham Fire met in their delayed first round tie. HQ were favourites after their recent run of results, but Durham Fire upse the odds to record a 4-1 win. Eddie Freeman, Steve Sennett, Lee Thomas and Dave Bell got the goals for the Fire Team who will meet Sedgefield in the second round. Richie Garrett scored his first goal in his second spell with HQ.

Easington were on League Duty and took the opportunity to go top, thanks to their hard-fought 3-2 win over Sedgefield. Neil Baker and Billy Crampsie put Sedgefield two up, but Easington pulled a goal back just before half time with a scrambled effort by Neil Robinson. In the second half, Easington took the upper hand and turned things around with goals from Keith James and Paul Footes.

Langbaurgh also picked up three points in the League with a solitary win over neighbours Stockton. Darren Henry was the man to secure the points for his team.
