A MERGER of two specialist firms looks set to make the North-East a major player in the energy advice market.
The deal brings together business consultants Smith Rea Energy Limited (SREL) and The Northern Energy Initiative (TNEI), a European centre for promoting new energy technologies.
The new company will be based at TNEI headquarters in Kelburn House, Newcastle.
Stephen Calvery, executive director of TNEI, said: "This is an extremely important development for TNEI.
"As a result of the merger, we are now in a much stronger position to expand the market position we have developed over the last five years and deliver the TNEI product to other regions."
Martin Barnes, managing director of SREL, said: "This merger presents a powerful combination of market knowledge, technology access and consulting capability that will enable us to exploit emerging opportunities in the region, nationally and internationally."
