Lingdale v Hinderwell

After suffering a heavy defeat by Lingdale in the league, Hinderwell hoped to put things right in the League Cup, they began well, playing some good football and went ahead on 30 minutes when the ball rebounded off the cross bar for Morrison to head into the goal.

Ten minutes later however they conceded a goal when a heavy tackle on Evans led to a penalty, Iseton coolly converting to level the score. Just a minute later a scramble in the Hinderwell box gave Moore the chance to take Lingdale into the lead. Hinderwell came back and Robinson, with a low diving shot equalised for Hinderwell. Two minutes into the second half Hinderwell were unlucky not to take the lead, Gibson in the Lingdale goalmade a great save, palming the ball wide from a snap shot from ten yards. Golightly passed to Hololob who, from 30 yards chipped over the Hinderwell keeper. Lingdale spurned many chances but Hinderwell kept fighting for the remainder of the game. No further goals were scored making the scoreline of 3-2 enough to take Lingdale into the next round.

Annandale Hotel v Gt Ayton

Annandale played host to Gt Ayton in an entertaining encounter played on a heavy pitch. Ayton quickly took the lead when Gawthorpe scrambled the ball home from a near post corner. Ayton continued to attack and it was no surprise to see them double their lead after 25 minutes. Annandale then lost Fairbank with what appeared to be a serious injury and from then on the referee had his hands full keeping control as the game at times boiled over. Tucker kept Annadale in the game with a string of saves leading up to half time. The second half began with Annadale on the attack, a neat passing move leading to Farndale firing into the net to keep up his goal scoring run. As the hosts pushed forward a quick Ayton counter attack involving the impressive Busby ended with the unfortunate Berry heading past his own keeper, The with Annandale appealing vainly for offside Murray ran through to make it 4-1 and aeal the points for Ayton

Boosbeck Utd v Lingdale Tavern

This game lived up to all the expectations of a local derby and began very evenly. Llingdale were the first to go close to scoring when Breckon broke through only to fire wide. Boosbeck had a few scoring chances in the early part of the game but squandered their opportunities. Midway through the half a ball played into the Boosbeck goal area was flicked on by Calvert and met with affirm header by Mark Thompson to open the scoring for Lingdale. Boosbeck had a chance to equalise when Ivan Thompson ran at the Lingdale defence crossing the ball across the Lindale goal area only to see the ball run just wide. A mix up in the Boosbeck defence allowed Calvert to nip between two defenders and fire home Lingdale's second goal from close range. In the second half Boosbeck tried to find a way back into the game, Ina Brown having a great header saved by Moore in the Lingdale goal and then having a well taken corner cleared off the line. The Boosbeck keeper could do nothing to prevent Lingdale's third goal in th 65th minute when Kevin Brown's cross field ball found Downing who hit a 20 yard shot into the net. Boosbeck continued to battle but the Lingdale defence held firm and countless attacks were thwarted. The game was played in a good sporting manner, helped by a good performance by referee Chris Gowland. Final score 0-3.

Goldsborough v Grosmont

Goldsborough took the lead when Welford scored with a curling shot from 25 yards followed by a 20 yard shot from Locker.

Just before half time Grosmont pulled a goal back with a close range header from Hall. A revived Grosmont levelled the score after just two minutes of the second half when Bailey tapped after a corner. With with ten minutes remaining Dent clinched the points for Goldsborough with a side footed shot into the corner of the net. Final score 3-2.

Highland Laddie v Whitby Fishermans

Highland Laddie began the game strongly but after 20 minutes Whitby had weathered the storm and began to create a few chances of their own, Wood hitting the post in the 23rd minute. Ten minutes later after some good work down the right Wood picked up the ball 25 yards out and hit a speculative shot which eluded the Laddie keeper to give Whitby the lead. The second half saw much more Laddie possession but again no goal mouth action and on 70 minutes a rare Whitby breakaway saw wood net his second of the game. Laddie pressed hard for the last 20 minutes and eventually saw a Mark Taylor goal. Whitby's defence held firm and they deservedly took all 3 points. Final score Laddie 1 Whitby 2.

Lealholm v Brotton WMC

Lealholm had to field a weakened side when they faced league contenders Brotton. Both teams had a couple of chances in the opening minutes In the 10th minute the Lealholm keeper made a good diving save only to see the ball bounce kindly for Scott to open the scoring while the keeper was still on the ground. The rest of the half was evenly played, Lealholm creating some chances from set pieces but failing to convert. On the stroke of half time Brotton increased their lead when a high ball from Ward was missed by the defender and found the back of the net. Brotton came out for the second half full of confidence and played the better football and after 20 minutes Scott netted his second from a throw in. when Greening came on as sub Lealholm regrouped, pressurised the Brotton defence and were unlucky not to pull a goal back when they had a penalty appeal turned down. Brotton always looked good on the break and with five minutes to go a Mcmillan cross found Solomon who lobbed the advancing Lealhom keeper. A hand ball on the line, in injury time clinched the match for Brotton, Ward converting the resulting penalty. Final score 0-5.
