Nine Billingham swimmers participated in the Harrogate Junior Gala at the weekend, where they competed against tough opposition. The first eight in each category attaining a medal position and Billingham swimmers brought home a total of 17.
Two ten-year-olds boys were superb with Glen Martin following on from his success of the last two weekends as he excelled himself once again with three PBs. Collecting gold for his 50m free, four silvers in the 50m fly, 50m back, 200m free and 100 I.M, he also collected a fifth position in his 50m breast. Anthony Brown, with four medals to his credit and a PB, gained himself two fourth medal places for his 50m fly and 200m back and two fifth medals for his 200m free and 50m free. His other swims were the 100m IM and 50m breast.
Eleven-year-old Bradley Dixon another medal winner and with three PBs was magnificent in clinching a gold in the 50m free and with another five medals to his credit two fourth places in his 100 I.M., 50m back, two fifth places in his 200m free and 50m fly and in six place for his 200m back. Craig Grounds also 11 swam brilliantly with two PBs in the 100m I.M. and 50m free.
Eleven-year-old Rebecca Blane swam well with two PBs in the 50m fly and 50m back also competing in the 50m free and 100m I.M.
Three 12-year-olds competed Joanne Longster with superb swims just missing out on a medal in ninth place in her 50m back and performing well in the 50m fly, 100m I.M. and 50m free. Charlotte Brown gaining two PBs performed excellently swimming in the 50m breast, 100m free, 200m breast and 50m free.
Rachael Blane swam in the 50m free and 50m back where she gained a PB.
Fourteen-year-old Phillip Grounds had a marvellous swim finishing in bronze position for his 200m fly and gained a PB for his 100m I.M.
Two Billingham swimmers were triumphant in the Northumberland and Durham Graded Championship Series Bag Cat Points Awards.
Glen Martin with a total of 1260 gained 1st position in the boys ten-year-old category whilst Emma Wilson with a massive points total of 2618 came second in the girls 14-year-old category.
