LORD'S LECTURE: The Lord Chancellor, Lord Irvine of Lairg, gave the first lecture by a Lord Chancellor at Durham University yesterday. It was held in the university's Human Rights Centre, attended by staff, students and guests from the community. The theme of the lecture was The Human Rights Act Two Years On: An Analysis.
PIZZA MAKING: Pizza Express in Durham is hosting a pizza-making session in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care, on Monday, November 25. Tickets cost £10 including pizza and a glass of wine, and are available from Linda McDonough on 0191-382 3312.
RELIGIOUS TALKS: Derek Gash, vice-president of the British Israel Bible Truth Fellowship, will speak on The Truth of the Lord and Moses, Prince of Egypt; at Shakespeare Hall, Durham, at 2.30pm on November 16, and at Central Methodist Church, Annfield Plain, at 6pm the same day. GOVERNORS MEET: School governors from across the North-East meet for a regional conference in Newcastle Civic Centre today. The event will centre on the Government's recent report on school governance.
BULB PLANTING: Volunteers are needed to help plant crocus and daffodil bulbs in Gosforth, Newcastle, today. Anyone wishing to help can meet up at 10am in Links Road, Kenton Road or at the Community Association building, in Christon Road.
LEGION FESTIVAL: The Royal British Legion holds a festival of Remembrance in Consett Civic Hall, Medomsley Road, today at 7pm. There will be performances from Consett Citizen's Choir, the Pauline Cook School of Dance and Consett Brass Band. Tickets are £2.50.
PINOCCHIO SHOW: The Stanley Variety Troupe performs Pinocchio in the Lamplight arts centre, Front Street, Stanley, from Tuesday until Saturday. Performances start at 7pm. Tickets are £3.50 for adults, £2.50 for children, or £10 for a family of four.
QUARRY TALK: Residents can air their views on the controversial Path Head Quarry site at a public meeting with Gateshead Council in Crawcrook Centenary Methodist Church Hall, Gateshead, on Monday from 3pm until 6pm.
BLOOD DONORS: Donor sessions take place on Monday, in Stanley Community Association, Tyne Road, Stanley, 2.30pm to 7pm, Ryton Social Club, Dean Terrace, Gateshead, 3pm to 7pm.
