Police have been given a £10,000 boost to improve the security of sheds and outbuildings.
The Northumbria force is working with North Tyneside Council, the fire service, Asda, B&Q and electrical retailer Maplins to provide alarms and security advice to properties in hotspot areas, initially Killingworth. Signs have now gone up around the area warning thieves that alarm systems are in place.
