A MEDICAL centre due for Leyburn will have to wait until planners are satisfied the right site has been chosen for the building.
An application has already been submitted to Richmondshire District Council and will be discussed at the authority's environment committee meeting on Tuesday night.
However, a report suggests the town's Brentwood may not be the best location - and if members do not vote to reject the project straight away, then they should at least wait until other possible sites have been examined.
The new two-storey building is needed because the present medical centre is struggling to cope with a growing patient list. It would also bring the town's medical facilities under one roof.
As well as six consulting rooms, there would be space for minor surgery, a meeting room, administration office, health education room and offices for a local midwife, health visitors and district nurses.
However, in his report, planning officer Peter Featherstone suggests the committee considers other sites.
The report states: "Before asking the applicants to commence work on this I would ask members to consider whether this site should be rejected at this stage without reference to other sites - in which case the application would be refused - or whether the possibility of this site should be kept in abeyance until other alternatives have been fully explored and detailed issues relating to this location have been addressed."
