THE mayor of Redcar and Cleveland will open a toy library in Marske today.
The new Redcar and Cleveland Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership library is mobile, and will visit libraries across the district from next week. The service was created with a European Social Fund grant of £67,690, a £5,000 award from Sure Start East Cleveland and £14,000 from the Single Regeneration Budget. ROAD WARNING: Drivers are being urged to avoid a village on the outskirts of Hartlepool while road re-surfacing works are carried out. North Lane, in Elwick, will be closed to traffic on two consecutive Sundays, November 10 and 17, and possibly a third, while repairs are carried out. Motorists who usually cut through the village travelling into and out of Hartlepool are being asked to find an alternative route.
OPEN EVENING: An open evening is being held at Prior Pursglove College, Guisborough, on Monday, November 11, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. The event is open to prospective students and their parents. Staff and students will be able to answer questions and departments will be open so prospective students can see the facilities. For details, call (01287) 280800.
SMOKE INHALATION: Firefighters were called to a house in Ellerbeck Way, Middlesbrough, at 3.25am on Saturday, where a three-piece suite was on fire. A 21-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.
FIREWORKS DISPLAY: The A1035 Riverside Road in Stockton will be closed between 6pm and 10pm for the annual fireworks display tomorrow. The Princess of Wales Bridge and Council of Europe Boulevard will also be closed from 9am to 10pm.
FASHION SUCCESS: A fashion show raised more than £1,000 for Oxfam recently. The show, at Guisborough Quoit Club on Friday, October 25, was attended by a capacity audience. The highlight of the night was the exhibition and sale of an £800 wedding dress.
ROGUE TRADERS: A talk titled Rogue Traders and Bogus Callers will be given by trading standards officer Michelle O'Rourke on Wednesday, November 13, at Brotton Library. Doors open at 1pm and the talk will start at 1.30pm. Admission is free.
