SOLDIERS who fought and died in the First and Second World Wars were remembered at the weekend, in the annual dedication of Darlington Memorial Hospital's Field of Remembrance.
People laid white crosses at the memorial as a tribute to those who lost their lives in battle.
National vice-chairman of the Royal British Legion's women's section, Barbara Frankland, attended the service to pay tribute to her uncle, who died in France.
She said: "It is always a very moving occasion. Obviously, fewer people come every year.
"We usually find that many more people will lay crosses during the week leading up to Remembrance Sunday."
Her husband, David Frankland, chairman of the Royal British Legion's Darlington branch, placed a cross in memory of his father, who died fighting in Italy.
Darlington Mayor Councillor Doris Jones attended the service, which was led by Fr Michael Higginbottom, of St Augustine's Church.
