A LABOUR of love which started some 20 years ago has reached a triumphant conclusion.
Northallerton historian Mick Riordan launched his new book about the town on Friday night .
The History of Northallerton represents 25 years of research into the market town and its life. Pre-sales reached around 600 before the launch.
"And that is from a run of just 1,000," he said. "It looks as though it is going to be a resounding success."
Mr Riordan, who is the official historian for Northallerton Town Council, has been working on the book since 1978.
A history graduate from Sheffield University, Mr Riordan has already had six history books published.
His new work updates the previous history of Northallerton which dates back to 1885. The 500-page book is illustrated with 150 images.
The book, which costs £25, has been published by Alan Avery, Blackthorn Press, Pickering. Mr Riordan will be signing copies of the book at Ottakar's and Barker's.
