THE opening of a new super market took a step closer yesterday as staff made final preparations for the event.
The Asda store opening in Bishop Auckland is on schedule for Monday, and staff are busy moving into the building in South Church Road.
The £20m investment has created 230 more jobs at the 40,000 sq ft store, which replaces the company's outlet in the Newgate Centre.
Work began on the project early this year. New features expected include a photographic shop and opticians, a delicatessen and bakery counter, an extended George fashions section and a home and leisure department.
General store manager Dave Burn said: "Our colleagues have all worked really hard to get the store ready in time."
