PLANS to build high-quality elderly people's homes and other community facilities in a North York Moors village have received a boost, following a £126,000 award.
The Abbeyfield House scheme is earmarked for a site near Castleton railway station. Its construction would provide employment for local people. It could include a day centre.
The Abbeyfield campaigners received the award through the Government's single regeneration budget scheme.
They are now considering employing a development officer to assist them, while other work will be done by volunteers, where possible.
Danby Group Parish councillors welcomed the news and looked forward to seeing the plans. The building would be the biggest structure in the Esk Valley, they believed.
