A SUPERMARKET manager has been putting his head to good use in a bid to raise money for a teenager who lost two limbs in an accident.
Ian Watt, manager of the Safeway store, in Cockerton, Darlington, volunteered to have his head shaved to raise funds for Ben Woods.
Ben, 17, of Hurworth, near Darlington lost his right arm and left leg in July after he was struck by a GNER express train travelling from Kings Cross to Newcastle on the East Coast Main Line.
Fundraisers have been spurred into action helping to raise money to buy state-of-the-art limbs for the teenager.
Mr Watt, 42, said: "It's a bit cold, that's for sure. It was the staff's idea to set it up. Ben used to work here part-time, so we thought we'd do something for him. We've raised over £1,000."
Last Monday, the Travellers Rest pub in Cockerton held a quiz night, which was attended by Ben's father, Paul, which brought in a further £100.
Mr Watt said: "The quiz night included a raffle with prizes. It was good to see so many people supporting the event.
"People can be proud of what they've achieved. The store is on a real high. We feel that we've accomplished something worthwhile."
The sum raised will go towards replacing the false limbs that Ben uses with a more advanced technological design.
