THIRSK boy Simon Taylorson has made it to the finals of a national football skills competition.
Nearly 100 youngsters from around the country will be travelling to Manchester United's training ground to show off their talents, as they aim a free kick at a cardboard cut out of the England star.
Simon, 10, was the only one chosen from 50 members of summer football school in Darlington to be offered the opportunity to take part in the challenge at Old Trafford.
Along with his father, Colin, Simon is an avid supporter of Manchester United and hopes to meet the team when he is at their ground.
The event takes place on December 14, prior to the Red Devils' home game against West Ham.
The youngsters will be split into three age groups and tested on their dribbling, shooting and passing abilities, as well as their accuracy when aiming at the Beckham cut-out.
Winners from each group will be awarded a trophy and receive a scholarship to a residential football training venue next summer.
