A military policeman from North Yorkshire has been killed in a road accident near his Army barracks.
Nick Woodward, who was 22 and came from Pickering, was out jogging when he was killed in a collision with a car near Aldershot on Friday.
He was pronounced dead at the scene - but was not identified until he failed to turn up for duty at the barracks. His mother Ida, of Costa Way, said: "We were so proud of him, he was such a sensible lad, a model son. At his passing-out he won best shot and best new recruit."
She added that the army had done everything they could to help, and were organising a full military funeral. Lieutenant Colonel Bill Warren, commanding officer of Nick's regiment, said army friends had been shocked at his death.
"Nick was a popular and well-liked member of the regiment. He clearly had a very promising career ahead." Police in Hampshire are investigating the accident.
