Footballer Paul Gascoigne has gone back to his roots - and is due to sign for a minor league team with an average crowd of just 80.
The midfield genius, who has thrilled crowds in the world's greatest stadiums, is training with Albany Northern League team Morpeth - whose players receive an appearance fee of just £20 a game.
It is a far cry from the superstar lifestyle he led with Newcastle United, Tottenham, Lazio, Rangers, Everton and Middlesbrough.
Gazza, who has offers to play in the Far East, is undergoing a strict fitness regime under the directions of Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club fitness coach Steve Black.
As part of the get-fit drive, he is training with Albany Northern League team Morpeth and chairman Ken Beattie confirmed yesterday that they were hoping to register Gazza as a player.
"A decision will be taken in the next week or so, but if I was a betting man I'd say that Gazza will play for Morpeth," said Mr Beattie.
"He has had a few offers from China and is undergoing an intense fitness drive. He has offered to turn out for us to get his match fitness back and, if there is time before he goes abroad, we will register and play him."
