TWO men were locked up yesterday for a savage attack on a man in a seaside nightclub.
David Hopwood, 30, was in hospital for three days after he was beaten unconscious with bottles and kicked during a night out in the Club Kudos, in Redcar.
Paul Temple, 20, and Alan Bennett, 21, were arrested in the club and tests discovered Mr Hopwood's blood on their clothes.
They claimed he made sexual advances and denied being involved in any unlawful violence.
A prosecution witness, a 17-year-old youth, said he saw three men smashing bottles over Mr Hopwood's head and kicking his prone body. He later identified Temple and Bennett.
The judge at Teesside Crown Court told them: "It was a savage and total over-reaction."
Bennett, of Blayberry Close, Redcar, was jailed for four years and Temple, of Kielder Close, Redcar, was sent to a young offenders institution for three-and-a-half-years after they were found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on October 26 last year
