A CHOIR of 240 young voices launched Bishop Auckland's Christmas celebrations yesterday.
Eight primary schools in the Bishop Auckland area each sent 30 pupils to the concert in Bishop Auckland Methodist Church, Cockton Hill.
The children had previously took part in workshops with musical consultant John Forsyth.
The pupils were from St Joseph's RC in Coundon, Coundon Primary, Woodhouse Close, St Anne's CE; St Wilfrid's RC in Bishop Auckland, St Chad's RC, Witton Park, Escomb and Eldon Lane schools.
Bishop Auckland Town Centre Forum sponsored the project, which will end with an outdoor performance at a Christmas community procession through the shopping area to the Market Place on December 5.
Organiser Sue Snowden said: "Our aim was to bring the young people together to raise their esteem and self-confidence. We are hoping that, although this was originally a one-off, it will become part of a community programme on an annual basis."
