They may be a whole lot prettier to watch lately, but with just one win in Darlington's last six league outings, caretaker boss Mick Tait has reason to voice his concern.

While Tait can sing the praises of a side clearly lifted under his leadership, the harsh reality is they remain at the wrong end of the table, just four points ahead of basement club Swansea.

And the former Hartlepool boss has called on his side to start picking up some much-needed points.

"It's no good playing well and not winning," said Tait.

"We've got to make sure we turn them performances into winning performances.

"We've got to judge ourselves against who we're playing against and we've played three of the higher sides in the division in the last three games and we've been better than two of them and at least equal to the other one.

"The main thing now is to go and win those games instead of just playing well."

With just one goal in their last three games Tait is well aware of where the problem lies.

"You don't win games if you don't score goals and we haven't scored the goals we should have done," said Tait, who is still hoping to bring a striker in on loan.

"We missed too many chances but we've got to keep on making them.

"They will eventually go in and we will start picking up points."

Meanwhile Graham Fenton and Paul Campbell have returned to full training following groin injuries.

However Stuart Whitehead, who returned to the side on Saturday, is still struggling with a stomach problem.

"It was excellent to see Stuart back on Saturday but unfortunately he's still struggling with that injury," said Tait.

"We thought it was just a muscular injury but it seems to have damaged ligaments and tendon in there.

"He got through most of the game on Saturday quite well but he's very sore again this week."

l Defender Paul Raven has rejected a three-month loan deal with Scunthorpe - despite Grimsby player-boss Paul Groves agreeing to the move.

The 32-year-old, who is in the final year of his contract at Blundell Park, turned down the chance to play for the third division side after aggravating a thigh strain, and has gone to Lilleshall for rehabilitation.

Raven has played just 34 games in a Town shirt over the last two seasons and Iron manager Brian Laws was keen to bring the defender to Glanford Park on loan
