PUPILS from seven Darlington schools will be singing in the Market Square at the weekend as part of the town's carol competition.
The final of the Carol for Darlington competition will take place on Sunday, at the switch-on of the Christmas lights.
The competition, organised by Darlington Town Centre Management and sponsored by Orange, invited pupils to write their own songs.
Seven finalists have been chosen and their carols have been played on Alpha Radio 103.2 with listeners asked to vote for their favourite.
On Sunday, all the finalists will perform in the market square between 4pm and 6pm. The winner will be announced before the lights are turned on.
The winning school will receive musical instruments worth £1,000 and two runners-up instruments worth £250.
