A COUPLE have celebrated a golden milestone and a 70th birthday within two days.
Bob and Joyce Aspey, from Brandon, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on October 25, more than 50 years after they met on a train station in Guilford.
Mr Aspey had just returned from fighting in Malaysia with the Coldstream Guards. They were introduced by a mutual friend on the platform and haven't looked back since.
Bob went on to become a guard at Buckingham Palace and then a prison officer, working at Durham Prison towards the end of his career.
But although both are now retired, neither are sitting back. Joyce is currently taking part in line dancing sessions, aerobics, computer classes and helps out in a charity shop.
The couple took a break from their busy routine to enjoy a weekend break in the Isle of Wight to mark Friday's anniversary and Joyce's 70th birthday, which took place the following day.
