A 36-0 defeat for the Under-13s at Malton and Norton could be perceived as this being a walk over for Malton, however Darlington, at times, played the better rugby.
Darlington's lightweight backs unable to stop the much larger numbers eight ten and thirteen of Malton who brushed aside most of the Darlington tackles.
Malton ran in five almost single handed tries in this fashion. Richard Leigh was one of the few Darlington players who were able to put in anything like the tackles that were needed to stop the larger Malton backs. Even though Malton scored with ease Darlington had their chances but without a co-ordinated game plan they ended up running single-handed plays and were often isolated.
Whilst they were certainly outsized by the Malton players Darlington must start to play a more co-ordinated team game and learn to take the right options if they are to have success in the future against teams like Malton & Norton.
