Mowden Park Under-16s lost 19-10 at Gosforth who came out strongly but it took them 30 minutes to score their first goal after Mowden Park had returned the pressure with interest, themselves unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions.

A Gosforth breakaway put the Mowden full-back under extreme pressure, and the clearance fell to their centre who worked the ball out for a good try in the corner that was well converted with the wind.

Mowden came out with strong resolve in the second half. A ruck under the posts produced good ball, and Adam Hunt did well to dive over near the corner. Mowden maintain ascendancy without being able to convert it into outright advantage. Play moved back and forth between the 22s until Gosforth were able to catch Mowden napping on the blind side from a line out ten metres out, and again converted the resulting try. This led to a sustained period of pressure from Mowden. From a quick penalty just inside Gosforth's half, Jason Elliot made a good penetrative run before working the ball to Chris Dodd who forced over under the posts. Mowden maintained the pressure and looked ready to score again at any minute, but a breakaway put paid to those hopes. Mowden drove over in the last minute, but the ball was held up.
