East Rainton were presented with no fewer than seven trophies at the League's annual awards ceremony.

The first XI carried off the championship, winning 19 and drawing two of their 22 matches. They also clinched the Henry Bainbridge Cup, Vinton Trophy and the Glen Pattison Trophy.

The East Rainton second team were winners of the Robert Dunnett, Norman Brown and Johnson cups.

Simonside were winners of the second division, succeeding in 15 of their 22 games. They drew three times and lost on four occasions after being relegated from division one in season 2001.

Littletown, with 13 wins, four draws and three defeats, were crowned champions of the third division.

Kelloe lifted the division two Norman Martin Cup and Hunwick won the division three Amos Lowing Cup.

Other cup winners were: Roseberry Group, Wearmouth; Andrew Whitfield Trophy, Coundon; Fred Napier Award for the best wicket keeper in all divisions went to East Rainton's Tom Hannon who had 20 dismissals.

Individual awards, Division One: best batting average, Stephen Bell (Newton Aycliffe) 66.50; highest score, Phil Dunsford (Benwell Hill) 130; best bowling average, Duncan Forrest (Belford House) 8.57; best bowling performance, Duncan Forrest nine for 17 inc hat-trick; best wicket keeper, Derrick Aylesbury (East Rainton) 19 dismissals; best fielder, Gary Shaw (Sunderland Hospitals) 11 catches.

Division Two: best batting average, Paul Thompson (Simonside) 80.00; highest score, Paul Thompson 126 no; best bowling average, Brian Morris (Hunwick) 8.10; best bowling performance, Dan Defty (East Rainton) nine for 50; best wicket keeper, Tom Hannon (East Rainton), Gavin Peterson (Whiteleas) 20 dismissals each; best fielder, John Smith (Bearpark), Richard Breen (Hunwick), Paul Thompson (Simonside) shared the award with ten catches each.

Division Three: best batting average, Craig Burke (Burnhope) 56.50; highest score, David Francis (Belford House) 120 no; best bowling average, David Nixon (Littletown) 5.02 (best av on record); best bowling performance, Colin Summers (Bearpark) seven for 25; best wicket keeper, Matthew Jones (Bearpark) 15 dismissals; best fielder, Ian Mason (Littletown) nine catches.

The Roseberry Group player of the year was Simonside's Paul Thompson, who was presented with a trophy and a cheque for £200 for his club.

The presentations were made by league chairman, Mr Brian Barrass and by the president of Durham County Cricket Club, Mr Malcolm Pratt.
