A NEIGHBOURHOOD Watch team is seeking volunteers.
The scheme, in the Hummersknott area of Darlington, helps residents to prevent crime.
Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators said pressures on police resources had made it even more important to take precautions to protect property.
According to the group, the main crimes carried out in the area since June have been thefts from properties.
County Durham Police are carrying out Best Value reviews, which will include an assessment of the Neighbourhood Watch.
The Hummersknott scheme's co-ordinators said they considered visible policing to be the best deterrent to crime and would be sending that message very clearly to police.
Anyone can become a member of Neighbourhood Watch.
Regular meetings are held in Leith Road, at the home of Julie and Alasdair Ross.
Anyone interested in becoming a member of the group should contact Jane Wood at Darlington police station on (01325) 467681.
