LANGUAGE students have been exploring the world of science fiction . . . in German.
Author Marcus Hammerschmitt, from Tubingen, which is twinned with County Durham, is leading three workshops with youngsters this week to explore his style of writing.
He took two sessions at Durham Sixth Form Centre yesterday and will be at Park View Community School, a designated language college, at Chester-le-Street, today.
The workshops give students the chance to listen to a professional author and poet, question him about his work and practise their German.
Those who attend the Park View workshop will be asked to produce a piece of German writing in the author's style.
Mr Hammerschmitt, whose work covers a variety of genres and styles, has been a professional author since 1994.
"I write novels, mostly science fiction, poetry, essays, radio plays, short stories and other things," he said. "Recently, I have blundered into journalism and have six books published so far."
