THE festive season is almost here and the region's theatres are keeping true to Britain's pantomime tradition.

In Richmond, the local Operatic Society is preparing to take to the stage with its madcap version of the classic, Babes in the Wood.

Writer Alan Moncur has woven a wacky storyline into the tale in which the babes' lives are endangered when the evil Grunter Grim, with the help of the sheriff and his two henchmen, takes them hostage.

The show is being staged at the Zetland Community Centre, from November 27 to November 30.

Performances start at 7.30pm, with a matinee on Saturday, starting at 2.30pm.

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £3 for children with concessions available.
