A BANNED driver yesterday admitted killing a motorist and seriously injuring his passenger when he crashed a stolen car while fleeing a burglary.

Daniel Reay, 23, caused the death of Mofiz Ullah, 68, while dangerously driving a stolen Saab in St Mark's Road, Sunderland, on September 2.

Mr Ullah's 28-year-old nephew, Mohibur Raham, was also seriously injured after the Saab hit their Vauxhall Cavalier.

Reay and his girlfriend, Ruth Taylor, had just taken £2,000 worth of property from a house in Westbury Street, Sunderland, when the crash happened.

Taylor, 22, admitted aggravated vehicle taking by allowing herself to be carried in the car, as well as pleading guilty to the burglary.

Reay pleaded guilty to burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst disqualified.

The pair, of Chepstow Street, Sunderland, were remanded in custody and will be sentenced on December 6.

Judge David Wood told them: "I am sure you both know these are very serious offences and custodial sentences are very likely in both cases."
