HONOURED life-saver Peter Thomson will be giving a lecture to the Whitby Civic Society, at Church House, Flowergate, Whitby, tonight.
Mr Thomson is the second-longest serving coxswain in the history of the Whitby lifeboat and is the holder of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's bronze medal for bravery. His lecture is called Bravery at Sea - the History and Workings of the RNLI. It will begin at 7.15pm. Admission will be £1 for non-members.
Christmas fair: The Black Sheep Brewery at Masham will be holding its four-day Victorian Christmas fair next week. The event starts on Thursday and will open at 10am daily.
Table top: A table top sale will be held at Sowerby, near Thirsk, in the parochial church hall, on Saturday, from 9am until noon. Admission is 30p. The proceeds will go towards the upkeep of St Oswald's Church.
Double carols: St Gregory's Minster, at Kirkdale, near Helmsley, will be holding two candlelit carol services this year, on December 21 and 22, starting at 6pm each evening. Admission will be by free ticket only. For details, call (01751) 433081.
Christmas crafts: Nunnington Hall near Helmsley is hosting the Ryedale Centre for the National Trust's traditional Christmas craft fair on Saturday and Sunday.
New post: Louise Anderson has been appointed to the role of geology access assistant at Scarborough Borough Council. Her role will be to improve access to the geological heritage of the area.
School work: Work has started on a £400,000 extension to Westfield Primary School, in Acomb, York. It will link the infant and junior schools which were merged last year. Two classrooms, an office and a staff room also form part of the scheme.
Antiques date: The Great Northern International Antiques fair will take place at the Yorkshire Events Centre in Harrogate from January 17 to 19 next year.
