NURSING home carer Angela Jackson is jetting off to the other side of the world to work with young girls in a children's home.
A dedicated Christian, she will be travelling to the Philippines in January to spend ten months helping impoverished youngsters.
Angela, 19, from Barnard Castle, has spent the last year raising money to fund her trip.
However, she is still more than £1,000 short of her £2,500 target and has appealed for help.
Ms Jackson has worked at the Beaconsfield Nursing Home, in Barnard Castle, for three years, and sees caring for people as her calling.
She said: "I'm really looking forward to working in the Philippines, and the only thing I'm nervous about is the flight.
"I'll mainly be in the children's home near Manila, but I'll also be out helping street kids and children whose parents are in prison.
"I have my faith and I see this trip as a sign from God, telling me that I should go to the Philippines and help the children.
"I saw a programme last year about the plight of children there and soon after I decided I wanted to go and help."
Ms Jackson is a member of the Barnard Castle Christian Fellowship.
Fellow members are holding sponsored events to help raise money for the trip.
When she returns from her work with the Philippine Outreach Centre, Ms Jackson is hoping to travel to India to work in a children's home.
